You might ask yourself why did mobsters of the early 1900’s dress so well like you have examples like Capone (check out my powerpoint on him) and others like in games. I might have 2 reasons of why they did it.
Possible reason number 1, Die with style: most people who do crime doesn’t wanna die, but some do, and when they do it they wanna look as good as possible in their casket, aka dressing in a suit with tie or bow.
Possibility number two, blending in: in the 1900’s it was usual even for low class citizen to use suits or at least the most expensive they could wear and to going for example parties undercover it helped to be good clothed to blend in with the crowd.
